ReShade

ReShade adds a layer of post-processing shaders on top of the game, giving the visuals a big boost. It first became popular in Project Reality for BF2, and the Project Remaster team adapted it for BF2142.

The latest ReShade setup comes built into Project Remaster. Don’t use the mod? This guide shows you how to add it to vanilla BF2142 too. (The original ModDB release is outdated.)

Steps

Tip

Using Project Remaster? Just tick Reshade in the Remaster Launcher’s Settings tab and jump to Using ReShade. Untick it to turn it off again.

1. Download the patch from Downloads.

2. Extract everything into your game folder, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142, and overwrite any files.

3. Installed the game somewhere else? Open d3d9.ini with a text editor and update the paths to match.

Using ReShade

1. Launch the game. You’ll see the effect as soon as the intro or login screen appears.

2. Press Shift + F2 to open or close the ReShade overlay.

3. On the Home tab, check that the preset has loaded. You should see shaders like Levels.fx and Vignette.fx.

   Empty list? The shaders haven’t loaded yet:

   1. On the Settings tab, set the paths (adjust if your game is elsewhere):
      • Effect search path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\reshade-shaders\Shaders
      • Texture search path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\reshade-shaders\Textures
   2. On the Home tab, click Reload.
   3. Check that the preset drop-down points to ...\Battlefield 2142\DefaultPreset.ini.

4. Toggle the effect on and off with Scroll Lock. We like rebinding it to Shift + F1 in the overlay.

5. To fine-tune the shaders, enable Configuration Mode on the Settings tab, then adjust them on the Home tab.

6. Want your own look? Click + next to the preset drop-down to create a preset. The download also includes a second one, DefaultPreset2, to try.

7. Seeing odd colours on some maps? Try turning off the LUT shader.

Good to know

• Needs Windows 7 or newer.
• Works with every mod, including vanilla.
• Safe for multiplayer, you won’t get kicked for using it.
• To uninstall, delete the files you added.
