Host a dedicated server

Time to go live! This guide sets up an unranked dedicated server, vanilla with the built-in launcher or modded with a shortcut.

Forward ports 29900 and 17567 for players outside your network. Vanilla: set up and start a server in BF2142ServerLauncher.exe. Modded: copy the mod into the server’s mods folder and start BF2142_w32ded.exe with +modPath mods/<MOD>. Either way, turn Internet on and NAT negotiation off.

Before you start

• Want players from outside your home network? In your router, forward these ports to your PC’s local IP (how):
  • 29900 (UDP or both)
  • 17567 (both)
• The server lives in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server. Below, we just call it the server folder.
• Can’t save a file in the server folder? Copy it to your desktop, edit it there, then copy it back.

Hosting a vanilla server

1. In the server folder, double-click BF2142ServerLauncher.exe.

2. Click the Add icon to create a new configuration.

3. Set up your Server Settings and Map List. Turn Internet on and AllowNATNegotiation off.

   Don’t want the server in the public server browser? Leave Internet off.

4. For settings the launcher doesn’t show, edit Documents\Battlefield 2142\ServerConfigs.con. See the list of server settings.

5. Click Start.

Hosting a modded server

The server launcher doesn’t support mods, so you’ll start the server with a shortcut instead. We’ll use Project Remaster as the example, so swap in your own mod’s folder name.

1. Copy the mod’s folder (e.g. Project_Remaster_v17) from Battlefield 2142\mods into the server folder’s mods.

2. Right-click BF2142_w32ded.exe in the server folder → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut).

3. Right-click the new shortcut → Properties, and add +modPath mods/Project_Remaster_v17 to the end of Target:

   "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server\BF2142_w32ded.exe" +modPath mods/Project_Remaster_v17

4. Open mods\Project_Remaster_v17\Settings\ServerSettings.con in the server folder. Set sv.internet to 1 and sv.allowNATNegotiation to 0, plus any other server settings you like.

   Don’t want the server in the public server browser? Set sv.internet to 0.

5. Open mods\Project_Remaster_v17\Settings\mapList.con and add a line for each map, e.g.:

   mapList.append Suez_Canal gpm_coop 16

6. Double-click the shortcut to start the server.

Note

Modded and vanilla servers read their settings from different places. Vanilla uses Documents\Battlefield 2142, and modded uses the mod’s Settings folder.
