Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”Does BF2142 run on Windows 10 and 11?
Yes. Follow the Getting Started guides and it runs well on modern Windows. If something goes wrong, Troubleshoot covers the common fixes.
Do I need an EA account? Can I use my old one?
No EA account needed. EA’s servers for BF2142 are gone, so old EA and GameSpy accounts, soldiers and stats no longer exist. You’ll create a new account on OpenSpy right from the game’s login screen.
Which edition should I get?
The Standard Edition, as our guides are written for it. Once patched to v1.51, every edition plays the same. See Install BF2142.
Account & unlocks
Section titled “Account & unlocks”How do I get all the unlocks?
With the OpenSpy patches, every new soldier starts with all unlocks, in singleplayer and LAN too, as long as you’re online.
Want them offline? BF2142Unlocker runs a master server on your own PC.
How do I reset my password?
Go to account.openspy.net and use partner code 20 - EA. You’ll need the email address you registered with.
Game settings
Section titled “Game settings”How do I change the game language?
With the Remaster mod installed, just switch it in the Remaster Launcher.
Without it, change it in the registry:
- Press Win + R, type
regeditand press Enter. - Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2142. - Set Locale to a code from the table below.

How do I play in windowed mode or at a custom resolution?
You can set the resolution in BF2142 Hub before you hit Play, or in-game under OPTIONS → VIDEO.
For windowed mode or a resolution the menus don’t list, launch the game from a desktop shortcut with launch options at the end of its Target, e.g. +fullscreen 0 +szx 1600 +szy 900 for a 1600×900 window (how to set up the shortcut). Only use resolutions your monitor supports.
How do I play in widescreen?
Tick TURN ON WIDESCREEN in BF2142 Hub, or add +widescreen 1 to your shortcut. The HUD still looks stretched in vanilla, so add the Widescreen HUD fix too. Project Remaster has both built in.
Can I change the field of view?
Not in the game’s menus, but it’s an easy file edit. See Field of View.
Can I change tickets, team ratio or respawn time in singleplayer?
Yes, and plenty more settings the menus don’t show. See Server Settings.
How do I play with bots?
Bots spawn in Conquest Co-op (gpm_coop) mode.
- Singleplayer: it’s the default, so there’s nothing to do.
- LAN: pick Conquest Co-op when you create the server.
Can I have more than 16 bots?
Yes! Modern PCs handle 64+ bots easily. See More Bots.
Are there more maps with bot support?
Plenty, from Project Remaster, the Reclamation map pack and more. See Maps w/ Bots.
Can I play Titan mode with bots?
Not in vanilla BF2142, where bots only play Conquest Co-op. Project Remaster adds limited Titan support for 48-player singleplayer and co-op. Bots can’t board the Titans yet, but the Titan turrets fire on their own.
Can I record and replay my matches?
Yes, with the built-in BattleRecorder and the BattleDirector app. See BattleRecorder.
Can I play Project Remaster online?
Yes, as long as everyone runs the same version of the mod, e.g. on your own LAN or internet server. You can’t join vanilla servers like Reclamation with it loaded, as you’ll be kicked.
Can I play on Linux, Steam Deck or Mac?
Linux and Steam Deck: yes. Mac: there is an official Mac version for older Intel Macs, while newer Macs need Windows or a compatibility layer. See the notes on Install BF2142.
