Can my PC handle this game?

Almost certainly. If your PC runs Windows 7 or newer and handles everyday apps smoothly, you’re good to go.

Can I play this game on Mac?

On older Macs, yes. EA released a Mac version in 2007, but it’s a “lazy” port: instead of a true native build, it runs the Windows game through Cider, a Windows compatibility layer. It’s a 32-bit app for Intel Macs, so it won’t run on macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer, or on Apple Silicon Macs.

Steps

Section titled “Steps”

  1. Download the game from Downloads → Standard Edition.

  2. Extract everything from the .rar or .zip file into a new folder, e.g. on your desktop.2

  3. Open that folder and double-click setup.exe to start the installer.3 If User Account Control asks, click Yes.

  4. Follow the setup wizard, keeping these in mind:

    • If a popup says This game has only been tested on WinXP(32bit), click Confirm, it’s safe to ignore.

    • When asked for a serial code, use a key that matches your edition:4

    • Keep the default install path if you can (C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142), as our guides assume it.

    • Pick the English version to get the HD English fonts in Project Remaster.

    • Skip BattleCammo (in-game voice chat) with Cancel.

    • Choose No, install GameSpy Comrade later, as GameSpy Comrade no longer works since the GameSpy shutdown in 2014.

    • When asked to register an EA account, click REGISTER LATER, as EA’s servers for this game are offline.

    • Skip PunkBuster, no server uses it anymore.

  5. When the installation finishes, close the wizard, but don’t launch the game yet. It would just ask for the disc.

  6. Next up: Install v1.51 patch

    Don’t skip this. The patch removes the disc check, and without it the game won’t start. Installed the Deluxe Edition? It’s already on v1.51, so go straight to Install BF2142 Hub

Which edition should I pick?
  • New to the game? Pick the Standard Edition, as our guides are written for it.
  • Once patched to v1.51, every edition ends up the same, so don’t worry too much.
  • This isn’t an official way to get the game. Apart from a second-hand DVD (which can’t log in online anyway), it’s one of the few options left. If you have any doubts about a source, scan the download with your antivirus or use a source you trust.
